Here is a picture of a man I never knew,
He was sent into the Army, in the year of 1962.
He was only 18, and never even driven a car,
He wasn't even sure, of what he was going for.
His Mama gave him a sweet kiss goodbye
His father shook his hand, with a tear in his eye,
The young man said goodbye and never looked back,
For he would begin to cry,
He never wanted to leave; he never wanted to die.
The Helicopter hit the ground, and the men scattered,
Till none were found,
He was the last one out, and the first to die,
He didn't even get to say goodbye.
At the Funeral, his Daddy was proud,
As they presented him with the Flag.
His Mama held in her hand a small black box
She held in her arms, a Purple Heart.
This Veterans Day, when they go to the Wall,
She will lay it there, with the Men and Women who
Would not let their Country Fall.
They were as proud as anyone would be,
Their son's Purple Heart, in a place everyone could see.
Thank you to all of those who served,
for I am grateful that my Daddy came home.
This poem is about one of my adopted KIAs.
I want to say to all the
Vets…Welcome Home, and thank you for your service.
I admire all of you who served, in any War.
Thank you again and God Bless.
