2RCR P&D CHRISTMAS PARTY

By M/Cpl. Kiah 05/01/98

On December 12, 1997 the members of 2RCR Pipes and Drums held their annual Christmas party at Lindsay valley Ski Lodge. The evening began with a meet and greet with the members, their wives and guests. After a few "beverages" a few souls braved the ski hill on toboggans and innertubes.

Following a light snack St. McMac arrived to present the band members with their annual Christmas/slam gifts. Every year the band draws a name of another member, if anyone has done something "silly" over the year their anonymous gift will tend to reflect that. Such gifts included a "safety" mace for the Drum Major Ted Stoneham, the "all new" 871 trade kit to M/Cpl. Jeff Donnalley, and to ensure he didn't feel left out, a bottle of Pepsi and a bag of Doritos to Company Sergeant Major Mike Sullivan.

Cpl. Tony Dopp's quick-witted Scottish humour as St. McMac made the evening a smashing success!! After St. McMac's departure on his trusty innertube (thankfully he chose to don his Toronto maple Leaf boxers as opposed to traditional "Regimental" attire) there were draws for glass turkeys.

Thanks to the generous support of local businesses and their donations of door prizes, no one left empty handed. the band bid a fond farewell to three members that evening as well. Warrant Officer Craig Tanner concluded his appointment as Drum Major earlier in the year and was posted over to India Coy as a platoon Warrant. He was presented with a Quaive cup from the band and an illustrated career history of WO Craig Tanner, created by Cpl. Steve McGuire. Also leaving the band were Cpl. Rob Kraft and Cpl. Steve McGuire. They leave the Regiment after serving in both 2RCR and 3RCR pipes and drums to pursue a career as Radio Operators. They were both presented with a Regimental rugby shirt, a framed pipers cap badge on the Maple Leaf tartan and a framed copy of the bagpipe music for the Regimental march "St. Catherines".

We wish WO Tanner, Cpl. McGuire and Cpl. Kraft all the best in their future endeavors. Not only are we losing three valued band members, but also three great friends. The members of the band and their families would like to wish everyone a very happy new year!

Pro Patria!
