Blue Star Service Banner
Americans are showing their pride in the servicemen and women
and the Waymart American Legion is offering families a way to
show their pride in the loved ones serving in the Armed Forces
-- the Blue Star Service Banners.
The Waymart Legion is offering the banners to area families with
family members in the Armed Forces.
The Blue Star Service Banner first appeared during World War
I to recognize the service of our children during that war. It
was revived during War World II and hung in the windows of many
Wayne County homes. It can be seen Mrs. Ryan's home in the movie
Saving Private Ryan.
The American Legion is rekindling the tradition for our servicemen
and women allowing families to have a visible symbol of their
pride in family members serving in the military.
The Blue Star Service Banner features a white field with a blue
star sewn onto a red banner. A banner can have up to five stars,
signifying that five members of that family are currently serving
in the military. A gold star replaces the blue star if a family
member is killed.
The banners can be displayed by families who have a loved one
serving in the armed forces, included activated members of the
National Guard and Reserves, whether the family member is a son,
daughter, brother, sister, wife, husband, cousin, grandchild,
etc.
Families who would like a Blue Star Service Banner can email
post889@nep.net.
The banners cost just $5.95 plus shipping and handling.
