Veterans from
the Waymart Area

It is too easy to forget and too hard to rediscover
the veterans who have served our Country with honor.

In the spirit of the Honor Rolls which appeared in towns across the country during World War II, we'll be building one in Waymart for all our veterans. It is a monumental task but we believe it will be worth the effort. We are looking for all veterans, wartime and peacetime, who live or have lived in the Waymart Postal Area, which includes Waymart and Prompton boroughs, Canaan, Clinton 1 and South Canaan townships.
The names will be listed by era on a permanent display in Wayside Park in Waymart.

The names are also be listed here on our webpage, Honor Roll.

We are also creating a book featuring the profiles of all the veterans.

We are currently working to complete the plans for the Honor Roll and have just begun collecting the names.
If you want to be included or know of any veteran who should be included please download the
Profile Sheet, fill it out and send it to the Post. Please don't assume someone else has sent the veteran's profile in. Send all veterans to us and we'll sort out any duplicate entries.
Veterans buried in the following cemeteries prior to 1994 have already been recorded by the Post for the memorial: Aldenville, Clinton Center, Prompton, Canaan Corners, South Canaan M.P., East Canaan at South Canaan, St. Tikhon's, Keen's, St. Patrick's, Riverdale, Bayley's at Elk Lake, Waymart (Clark's at Jenkins) Drake's Shaffer's at Varden, Farview State Hospital, Middle Creek-Tannery Road (Booths) and Barna's.
Send the information to: American Legion Post 889, P.O. Box 395, Waymart, PA 18472.
You can also email the information to:
post889@nep.net.

 Waymart WWII Honor Roll

Honors Rolls were quite common during WWII with almost every town building one. Waymart Honor Roll  is pictured above. Over the years after the war they were taken down and most disappeared leaving only the photos and memories.
Watch this space for more information on the Memorial.
