September, 1943. Following the massive tank battle at Kursk, The Red Army drives the once-victorious Wehrmacht before it in an unstoppable tide of men and machines bent on destroying the Teutonic invaders.
His battalion overrun, Corporal Hans Dietrich leads survivors of his company on a desperate trek through partisan-infested swamp near the embattled city of Smolensk in search of friendly lines. Along the way they capture Nikolina Volcovich, a beautiful and enigmatic Russian partisan. Hans soon learns his winsome prisoner is a former Nazi spy hunted by both the SS and NKVD. Smitten with his comely captive and fed up with SS atrocities, Dietrich resolves to save her from both the NKVD and his own countrymen.
