Coastal units numbered 2,403 officers and men. The merchantmarine of 30,000 men and 1,000 ships was called up and largely escaped to play a part in the battle for the Atlantic.
After the Norwegian campaign the Norwegian navy numbered 2 destroyers, one submarine, 10 fishing protection boats and a few auxiliaries.

By January 1943 The Norwegian Navy had replaced many of its losses almost being up to pre war strength.
At the end of the war the figure had risen and the Norwegian navy was made up of the following number of vessels.
