Medal Society of Ireland

History

The Medal Society of Ireland was founded in 1986 to encourage the study of medals and badges in their various collecting forms, with special emphasis on Irish and Irish related material. Areas covered include:

  • Disbanded and existing regiments of the British Army.
  • The Militia and Volunteers in Ireland.
  • Irish units and individuals in Empire, Commonwealth and Foreign armies.
  • The Royal Irish Constabulary, Royal Ulster Constabulary and Garda Siochana.
  • The Irish Defence Forces since 1922.
  • Civil awards of the Republic of Ireland
  • Related badges and insignia.

The Society produces a quarterly Journal, which contains articles, many of them illustrated, on these subjects. As many members have wider interests, features on foreign awards are also included from time to time. The Medal Society of Ireland is happy to accept for publication in the Journal articles of interest to the membership, from both members and non-members.

Meetings are held quarterly in various parts of Ireland, North and South, and during the course of each year there are organised visits to museums and other places of military interest.

The Society is currently inviting applications for membership. Annual subscription is 20 Euros for adults and 10 Euros for those up to 16 years of age on admission (payment can be in Euro's or STG£). If you would like to join us in the Medal Society of Ireland please complete and print the application form and forward it together with your subscription, to the Membership Secretary, whose address appears at the bottom of the application form.

If you have any queries please feel free to contact the society by E-Mail
