History
The Bison was designed in 1988 by General Motors Diesel Division. The
design was for an eight wheeled Armored Personal Carrier which is based
on the LAV design which was built for the US Marine Corps. Canada placed
order for 199. The first production vehicle was completed in 1990.
Performance
The Bison is powered by a General Motors Detroit Diesel which gives
it a land speed of 100 km/h. The Bison is fully amphibious and has two propellers
to push it through the water at 10 km/h. The steering is power assisted
and aside from the driver there is a commander and room for 9 troops. It
has a 7.62 mm machine gun on a ring style mount and smoke grenades.
Configuration
The Bison is set up with the driver in the left front and the commander
behind him only rasied up for better vision. The engine is located on the
right side of the driver and the troops go in the back compartment. The
troops sit on bench like seats along either side of the back. They can get
in and out through the rear ramp which is hydralicly operated or hatched
which are on the roof. The driver and commander have their own hatches for
entry and exit of the vehicle.
