Sikorsky CH-124 Sea King
The CH-124 Sea King is an all weather, day or night, shipborne, Under
Sea Surveillance and Warfare (USW) helicopter. To carry out this role the
Sea King employs detection equipment, navagational systems, and weapons.
This allows it to search, locate and destroy a submarine. It carries out
other tasks like surface surveillance, search and rescue, passenger transport
and slinging operations.
The Sea King has 2 engines and 1 main rotor. The rotor has 5 blades
and can fold along with the tail rotor for smaller, more compact storage.
The Sea Kings was one of the only 2 aircraft sent to the Gulf to support
Operation Friction. It was sent down with CF-18 Hornets.
