Hawaiian History in Brief

The state seal of Hawaii has the coat of arms of the Hawaiian monarchy in the center. On the left is King Kamehameha I and on the right, the Goddess of Liberty.

The state motto, "Ua-mau ke ea o ka aina i ka pono" means, "The life of the land is perpetuated in righteousness."

The flag is red, white and blue with a Union Jack in the upper left-hand corner. The eight stripes represent the main islands of the state.
