CAPTAIN Wesley E. LINDSEY, JR., USN

CAPTAIN Lindsey's naval career began with Boot Camp at the Naval Station, Newport in November 1942.

He had tours on the USS PC 614 in 1943 and on the USS PCE 845 in 1944.

In January 1945 he received a Fleet Appointment to the U S Naval Academy and graduated with the Class of 1949. He then served in theUSS Joseph P Kennedy Jr DD850 that had a Sixth Fleet deployment and a tour in Korea arriving back in Newport by making a round the world cruise. He spent one year at the Electronics Maintenance course at Great Lakes Illinois followed by duty on the staff of COMDESFLOT ONE with two deployments to Korea.

In April 1954 he commanded the USS Rockville EPCER 851 and in August 1956 he was relieved and reported to NROTC Unit at the University of Pennsylvania for a two years as instructor for the First Class Naval Science curriculum.

In July 1960 Capt Lindsey took command of the USS Adroit serving in that capacity for two years. The Adroit completed a cruise with the Sixth Fleet initiated by the Lebanon crisis, a shipyard overhaul, local operations, located the nose cone for the testing office at Cape Canaveral, and trailed a Russian Oceanographic ship from Charleston to the vicinity of Halifax, Nova Scotia turning trailing responsibility over to the Canadians. He then served two and one half years on the Staff of COMINLANT and in January 1963 he took command of the USS Grant County LST 1174 followed by command of the USS Shadwell LSD 15 in August 1964.

In December 1965 he was detached and went to the Armed Forces Staff College in Norfolk VA and thence to the US Naval Academy for a three year tour as a Battalion Officer.

In July of 1969 Capt Lindsey reported as the Chief Staff Officer to COMPHIBRON TWO in Norfolk Virginia. In the summer of 1970 he was ordered to Charleston as COMINRON 8 and in January 1971 became COMOMCOM CHARGED with making airborne mine sweeping work and become a feasible alternative to surface minesweeping. In June of 1972 he was ordered to Guam to become COM MINE FLOT ONE. The MSOs were ordered to forward base at Subic Bay in September 1972 and when the Paris Peace Accord was signed in January 1973 they sailed for Haiphong and were augmented by MSOs from MINPAC and the helicopters and MOMCOM from the east coast. These forces operated through August 1973. COMINRON ONE was disestablished in June 1974.

Captain Lindsey then reported to establish Naval Education and Training Command Atlantic (NETSCLANT) in Norfolk Virginia from which he retired in June 1977 and became Director of Plant Operations at Annie Penn Memorial Hospital in Reidsville North Carolina.
