"Scoop" is a nationaly certified narcotics detection K-9. In August 1997, "Scoop" was assigned to his new partner, Det. Casey McGlamery of the DeKalb County Police Department. Very soon, the everyone would learn that this team would make a major impact on crime in schools. "Scoop" and Det. McGlamery now work for the School System Police Department. , where Det. McGlamery is now a School Detective. Nothing has changed for this duo. Both Det. McGlamery and "Scoop" continue to conduct random searches of student lockers and student vehicles at all high schools and middle schools in the county. Due to the fact that "Scoop" is dual certified in the detection of marijuana, cocaine, heroin, crack cocaine, and methamphetamine, this team began to locate illegal drugs in some of the schools. It didn't take long for the word to spread among the students that the school system had "the Scoop" on drugs. It was obvious that this K-9 team was beginning to deter drug use in our schools. "Scoop" has a 100% conviction rate. In 1998, there had been several incidents of violence in schools across the country with the use of firearms. Many young children were losing their lives to other students who brought a gun on campus. Once again, the school system introduced yet another pro-active approach to crime in DeKalb schools. The school system purchased a 1 1/2 year old German Shepard named "Bodi." However, "Bodi" was different from Scoop, because he could find GUNS! "Scoop" and "Bodi" teamed up and have been featured on local and national media television programs since January 1998. The K-9 Unit have been fighting crime in schools ever since. As of December 2001, the K-9 unit has grown to SIX K-9 teams including;
Scoop and Det. McGlamery (Narcotics Detection)- K-9 Unit Coordinator
Bodi and Officer Malone (Firearms Detection)- Shamrock M.S.
Taz and Officer Bell (Narcotics Detection)- Dunwoody H.S.
Tessa and Officer Bielicki (Explosives Detection) - Tucker M.S.
Rocky and Officer Brooks (Narcotics Detection)- Cedar Grove M.S.
