Introduction

Whilst travelling to North Sea Rigs from Aberdeen, I always made a point of looking for the old wartime airfields from the helicopter. Airfields such as Longside (Peterhead), Inverallochy and Crimond (Rattery) always caught my attention. When returning home from the Texaco Captain field located in the outer Moray Firth, I always think of the aircrews heading home after a mission as I see the coastline between Peterhead and Fraserburgh as they would have done all those years ago, although they would have more reason to appreciate the sight.

On each of the airfields I have included a selection of Digital Images which were taken during visits to each site. I hope to make all these available on CD-ROM soon, Email me for details.

I have decided to concentrate my efforts into recalling the histories of the disused airfields, I may at a later date cover Dyce (Aberdeen) and the operational bases of RAF Lossiemouth and Kinloss.

I hope that people will use this information and visit the sites, sites like Forres, Dallachy and Banff, Some of the sites have memorials to service personnel who lost their lives whilst serving their country.

Should you have any queries relating to facts contained in the site, or you wish to note any dead links, please contact me.
