If you had military or civilian service with the War, Navy, or Defense departments between 2 September 1945 and 26 December 1991, you may be eligible for the Cold War Certificate. On 5 April former and current service members and DoD civilians could start applying for certificates honoring them for their role in winning the Cold War. Those qualifying for the certificates can apply via the internet at http://coldwar.army.mil.

Applicants must present proof of service. Do not send original documents; they will not be returned. Applicants must use fax or mail to submit supporting documents. Any of the following can be used as proof of service:
DD 214 (Certificate of Release Discharge from Active Duty)
WD AGO Form 53-55 War Department Separation document)
