Jessica and Lindas trip to |
Jessica's Quick Journal We met around lunchtime at Fiumicino airport. We quickly hugged and then off we were to buy our tickets to Roma's main train station, simply called "Roma Termini". Upon arriving in Roma we checked our bags into storage, bought the tickets we would need for our entire journey, and headed out in search of history, treasures, and most importantly, something to eat! We walked to the Coliseum, albeit, not quite a bee-line, but we made it! Pictures don't do her justice, she is grand indeed. I am speaking of the Coliseum ( mom your cool too! ). So on we walked, we walked so much that that night I think we had our best sleep of the trip! ------ We walked a lot in Italy! ------ Roma Part Uno - As mentioned above, we saw the Coliseum. I had pizza for dinner and mom, well, mom lucked out and found a Somali resteraunt! Goodness! She was very happy about that and almost took pictures! At approx. 8 at night we boarded our train for Sicilia! Sicilia - We arrived in Taormina while the sun was still rising! Hopped in a cab and off we were to our first hostel. This was the party hostel. We shared a room with at least 4 others, sometimes more. We are still not sure if anyone really works at this place, we just know that when it came time to check out that someone was there, and they wanted cash... We visited Letojanni, Castelmola, Catania, and Giardini Naxos. We climbed a mountain, had killer Cappuccino's, and bought one too many sweaters! Four nights in Sicilia in all. Brindisi - We weren't sure how this stop would end up. We were hoping for beaches..didn't ever make it one! We stayed at a super cool hostel, shared a large room between us, and met some interesting folks along the way! The owner cooked all meals for all guests and after a briefing from mom, began to cook only Linda-friendly meals! They were actually very tasty! Great Chef! We met funny Aussies, unlucky Americans, a family full of Kiwi's and one maverick from Canada. Not too much for one to see in Brindisi, but the people make up for the lack of sights! Roma part due - Back to Roma! We stayed in our only hotel of the trip! A bit small, but clean! Saw many sights. Trevi fountain, the Pope's casa, the inside of one too many shops! Mom went hog-wild in one! We were the #1 customers in the Hard Rock Cafe, nothing like American food and good tunes! During this trip we had a some great times! We learned a lot about each other that we either never knew or had simply forgotten along the way. We hope to share more adventures someday! Here's to vacations! As important as sunshine!! |
