Camp Curtin
August 28.62 Dear Kate,
I thought I would write a few lines to you to night. I feel the best that I have scince I came to this place. Begin to feel like myself again once more. We have some very good times but still it is not much like home. I received a letter from Alpheus. He thinks that if there is one rebel less for his trouble in bringing that pistol to me he will be well paid. He says that Jerome is sleeping with Cynthia M. Green. I presume this, however, is no news for you. It took me by surprise some what but still I hope it all for the best.
I have been over to the insane assylum to day. It is the nicest building I ever see. Every thing was in such nice style and so clean and such a beautifull sceniery around the country. But there is no use in my trying to describe it so you will have to wait till I come home for the rest.
I sent an ear of corn in our things that was raised on that farm. You see it grows big down this way. I sent our box home to day. It has severall bunches in that will go to Mrs. Douley, Genesee Forks, and some that Mr. Raymond's people will call for. The charges will be paid there. If they are not you must let me know and I will get it here but you must get it if you can. The box was sent to Jerome. If he is not there see that it got up to our house and let the folks know when it comes.
Write soon. The boys have all gone to bed or rather laid down on their blankets and I must close.
Billy Monroe stayes with us tonight. He starts for Dixie to morrow morning. I wish that we was going with him but we must wait patiently untill our turn comes, and I am afraid that will not be very soon. I cannot think of any thing more to night so I will close. Your truly A.L. Harvey
I cannot think of any thing more, so I will close. Write soon . Has Jerome come home yet? My love to all. Yours truly, A. L. Harvey
