Camp McNeal
Sept 20th 1862 Dear Kate,
I have not much news to write this morning but as Harry staid with us last night I thought I would write a few lines. I have been on guard for the last 24 hours but this is nothing now days. I get some sleep along through the night by odd spells so that I feel very well.
About that bounty, I think that Jerome wrote what is, or will be, about right and that is all will be wanted. I have got some money with me now. I will send it home as soon as I think it will be safe. I expect we shall draw some more this month.
I want that you should use all that you knead, and if there is any, I had as lief it will be put out in sheep as any thing. I will send Jerome letters home in this so you can see what he writes about it. You know what my mind is but I want that you should do as you think best.
Harry is looking rather poorly. I should not think he was hardly able to go to his Co. but he says he shall go before long. I think that if Ruth has not started she might as well stay at home for George would not go into a hospital here, and went on to his Co. when Bill and Jed went. I tried to have him go into one but he would not. I think all ailed him was he was tired out, and a little rest he would been all right and perhaps he is now.
I supose that Swanes corps has had some fighting but wether the boys got their time enough I do not know. If you want to go to Broome his fall I should like to have you go. If Pa comes out you can go with him. If our folks do not go, and you can stay as long as you are a mind to, I think that you could stay there two or three months very well and enjoy yourself first rate. I want you should do just as you think best in all things and I will be satisfied.
I have not heard from Thomas or Girdon scince I came here but supose they are in the hospital at Alexandria. They were there (stain) could get leave long enough I would go and see them as I know they would like to see any from home again. I have not time to write any more this time so I will close.
Yours as ever, Bert
