Dear Kate,

You see that I am still at this post. Perhaps shall be for some time yet. Am as well as usuall. Hope this will find you all the same. I have been waiting a day or two to get a letter from Potter but did not get one and the last one I had from you was wrote the 29, some time ago I shall expect one tomorrow again. Between you and me, that is the greatest comfort that I have is getting a letter from you. By the way you

them half long enough it seems
       might write longer ones
       there visiting and see so
you can tell me about I do not
think that I intend to complain
so but I do love to read longer
I like to write long ones to
do not doubt but what you
       me write often and all
think of which is not much
       but them you must take
       and make the most of
I come home I will tell all the news

You cannot think what one of my friends here had come to day. It was nothing more than a box of things composed of butter, chese, cake, and berries and I was invited in to take super with him. I came to the conclusion that if my friends in Triangle want to help a soldier, they can do it now by sending along a box of such things. I think that I can appreciate some such things now days. Now you can do as you think best about doing any thing about sending me any thing untill you get home, but I know that some such thing would go first rate down here and from there it would taste-

       from home but I would-
if I could get some of y-
       days if you should-
       some things dearest it as-
       Harvey Co K 149 Regiment P-
       J. C. Johnson but the way-
       I think it would come-
       now don't take any offense-
       writen you know that I-
       but what you did make-
anybody but do as you please-
we shall stay here this w-

to me and all the rest of the folks if they can get time, for I am quite anxious to hear from the folks, more so than they are to write. I do not have to do now days and if I could get a letter every day so I could have one to answer, it would help pass time very pleasantly. Write as often as you can get time and I will do the same. Give my love to all that enquire after me and except a share to yourself and the children. It is getting bed time, and I must turn in. Our bed consists of a pine board with my overcoat put down to.

       my blanket over me
bed and I sleep first (rate)
       close so good night
       from yours Afe-
