Troy NY is the home of Samuel Wilson better known as "Uncle Sam". During the War of 1812 Samuel Wilson packaged and shipped meat to the American troops. On the barrels of meat was stamped U.S. which obviously meant United States but our troops began to depend on Samuel Wilson for fresh meat and dubbed U.S. = UNCLE SAM. Since that war Uncle Sam has been the patriotic icon of the American fighting man and Troy NY is proud of her Uncle Sam. Thousands of men & women responded to the call of "Uncle Sam Wants You".
