USS Minnesota (BB-22) was launched 8 April 1905 by the Newport News Shipbuilding Company, Newport News, Virginia and was commissioned 9 March 1907. She was one of the 16 battleships sent by President Theodore Roosevelt on a voyage around the world (12/1907-2/1909) She primarily operated in the Atlantic and Caribbean during her sixteen years of service. Operating primarily along the east coast, she cruised in Mexican waters in 1914. She stuck a mine in 1918 with no loss of life and was repaired in five months. USS Minnesota made three round trips to Brest, France to return over 3,000 veterans to the United States in 1919. She served much of her time as a training ship for gunners, engineers and midshipmen. USS Minnesota was decommissioned and struck from the Naval Register at Philadelphia Navy Yard 1 December 1921.
