AGM-65 Series (Maverick) Missile

The AGM-65 Maverick missile is a rocket propelled, air-to-ground missile designed for use against targets requiring considerable warhead penetration prior to detonation, such as:

(2) Fortified ground installations

(3) Armored vehicles

AGM-65E:

Homes on laser energy reflected from the target.

(1) The target is illuminated by a laser designator.

(2) Ground devices:

(a) Hand-held

(3) Airborne devices:

(a) Separate aircraft
(b) Launching aircraft

AGM-65F:

Has an infrared (IR) seeker


(1) Homes in on a heat source infrared energy or natural infrared radiation.

The missile consists of two major sections:
(1) The guidance and control section
(2) The center-aft section

Guidance and control section consists of:
(1) AGM-65E - Laser seeker, electronics, and flight control subsystem.
(2) AGM-65F - IR infrared seeker, electronics, and flight control subsystem.

Center aft section consist of:
(1) Warhead, rocket motor, hydraulic actuation system, and wing assembly.
