AIM-120 Series Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missile (AMRAAM)
The AMRAAM program was established as a result of a Joint Service Operational Requirement for an advanced air-to-air tactical missile.
AMRAAM is an all-weather, radar guided, beyond visual range missile compatible with United States Navy (USN) and Marine Corps (USMC) F/A-18C/D (Hornet) and the USN F-14D (Tomcat), as well as the Air Force (USAF) F-15 and F-16 aircraft.
The missile guidance system incorporates an active radar seeker for terminal acquisition and homing, and an inertial mid-course unit with command update capability.
The AMRAAM is stored and delivered to the fleet as an All-Up-Round (AUR) missile.
