The AIM-7 is a medium range, supersonic, air-to-air guided missile.
AIM-7 Sparrow Missile.
(1) Designed to be either rail or ejector launched from an interceptor aircraft.
(2) The mission of the AIM-7 is to intercept and destroy enemy aircraft in all types of weather.
(3) Launched from the F-14(TOMCAT), or the F/A-18 (HORNET) aircraft.
The AIM-7 Sparrow III missile employs semi-active homing.
This missile is issued to the fleet as an AUR (All Up Round). Wings and fins are installed at fleet level and are shipped separate from the missile.
