I started flying this "bird" in Oct. 1942 as a S/Sgt. Pilot. I flew "MCarty's Party" for 68 missions of it's total of 160, 391st Group Champion. It is mentioned in 5 published books. I just recieved an Oil Painting Print of it landing in Matching Green in 1944 from Mr. Dave Garnaham of Bedford, England. (Dave was a young lad living at Matching at the time) I flew the B-26 for approximately 1500 hours. It brought me home many times with damages and one single engine.

I just returned from a trip to the UK and stopped at my old base in Great Saling. The runways have been removed, but one grass runway is in use as a private flying field and a pistol club uses the the revetments where we test fired the machine guns. I sla stopped and had brew at the White Hart pub and toasted all the guys from back then. The coffee shop on Andrewsfield has a wall with all the names of the men who have visited since the war.

Thanks to the wonder of the Internet, we have learned more than we ever thought possible about our brother/brother-in-law Theodore F. Balk, Jr. He was pilot in 320th Bomb Gp, 443rd Sq, and was based at Massisault, Tunisia. Was shot down in B-26 on a bombi g mission to Italy on 7/24/44. His plane number was N41-34800. He would have been 80 on 7/4/2000 and is lovingly remembered by his 4 living brothers and widow. If anyone knew him or has any direct knowledge of his service and his crash, please let us k ow. We have heard he is named on a memorial in a cemetery called Sicily-Rome American Cemetery near Rome. Anyone familiar with that? Can't find a word on the Internet about it. Thanks and best to all. http://www.theflyingprostitute.com Visit this web site to learn about a young American's life and events leading to December 7, 1941 when a previously untold Air War story begins to unfold. Investigating the original B-26 Martin Marauder airplane with short, stubby wings, a U.S. Congressman stated, "This plane has no visible means of support---A Flying Prostitute." The B-26 Martin Marauder was also nicknamed "The Flying Coffin," "The Flyi g Cigar," "The Flying Buzz-Bomb," "The Widow Maker," "The Murdering Marauder," and "Martin's Miss Carriage." When World War II exploded on the world scene the B-26 Martin Marauder was the only bomber we had in quantities. No prototype had been built and no accelerated service test had been completed. The results of deploying this bomber: deadly and shocking! Lt. Colonel Lawrence J. Hunter accumulated more flying time as an instructor and combat pilot in the B-26 than anyone alive. In his book he tells the untold story of the “THE FLYING PROSTITUTE.”

Fantastic site! Quite a few of these fine birds were built right here in Nebraska! Saddens me to think that there is only one left IN the United States that is airworthy! I have an Uncle, Alfred Junior Flower who served as a "Bombagator" on one. He,along with five other crewmates were lost from the Lake Charles, La. AAAf base on 7-24-44 & nothing was ever found. I've been doing some research on this to kind of "fill in the gaps" for our family so to speak. So I just LOVE to hear all of the stories ofwhat it was like to fly in the Marauder. I am only 40, so I was robbed of the honor of knowing him. This sort of helps me to get a better idea of him as a person. Enough of that, keep this web-site going so we can help keep the history of this fine aircraft alive!! Best wishes to all!!!

My uncle, Sgt. Emanual (Manny) Strugatch served as a B 26 tail gunner in Europe in late 1944 to around VE Day. He now lives in Florida. Is there a Marauder Men group in FL that you may know of. If there is could you tell me how to contact them. Thanks Marv Stricker

I request your help...My Uncle, Robert F. Lemmon, Jr., hometown of Baytown, Texas, was a Bombadier in a B-26 Marauder. It was shot down over Germany, but 2 of the flight crew survived...went to my hometown, Baytown, Texas, and visited with my Grandmother & Grandfather out of respect for my Uncle who was killed. I was told that a anti-aircraft shell hit the bombadier's glassed-in area and my Uncle was killed instantly. Does anyone know my Uncle? He flew out of England...that's all I know. I never had the opportunity to meet my Uncle, but I would be very happy to come into contact with anyone that knew him. Again, my Uncle's Name: ROBERT F. LEMMON, JR. Hometown: BAYTOWN, TEXAS Flew From: ENGLAND TO GERMANY ON BOMBING MISSIONS Position: BOMBADIER Thanks for anyone's help. Sincerely, Russell C. Lemmon

I currenty am going to the Art Institute of Dallas studying Computer Animation, I want to do a project with the B-26 flying during a bombing run. I have all your pictures from your web site and thanks! This will help me very much when I build it in 3-D! But I ask for your help in finding blue prints(or copies)to the plane so I can bu ld it to exact detail. Your help will be very much appreciated. Doug p.s. I will send you the finished work!

Thank you for the informative site about the B-26 Marauder! As a writer, I am especially grateful for sites like this one, they are great sources of reliable and accurate information. When I was writing my WWII novel, The Triumph and the Glory, I relied ften upon internet websites. I would like to thank the webmaster, and everyone involved who has contributed to the preservation of our proud military heritage by generously offering their thoughts, comments, historic photographs, and words of remembrance

Nice site! My dad, Don Chaney was a pilot/co-pilot with the 344th BG, 494 bomb squadron - flew 65 missions our of Stansted and Cormeilles-en-vexin (Pointois). He's still alive and kicking. Especially liked the piece on the plane restored by the French MM. Dad and I saw it in April 1997 in the hanger at LaBourget. No wings, no plexiglass yet but still a beauty. We were there for a ceremony at the airfield at Pointoise (Station 59) during which a monument to the men of the 344th was dedicated. Attend d by a number of Americans including John Stokes, reading a message from Colonel Witty. a Couple dozenf French marauder men and many people from the surrounding towns. Very moving. Does anyone know a fellow named John O. Moench? He supposedly posted some pictures supplied by my dad and Carl Criss out on the web but I can't find the site.l
