Comments: Thanks for making it possible to visit a part of my past that I've tried so very hard to forget, it has helped me to reealize that it really happened. I haven't found the peace i need yet, but i'm going to continue to try. Suicide has crossed my mind so any times, and the many different ways i would do it ( i've gone as far as putting the gun in my mouth and pulling the trigger, but whaat i thought was taking it off "safety" actually was the opposite, after the horror of the moment i looked up and ssaw m two gandbabies on the wall and then jusst started crying as i so often did during those times. I still continue to ask myself "why, whats it all about, whaat's the purpose"? VA has beat me down to a feeling of worthlessness too many times, and accused m of lying too often; even though i'm 50% SC and 100% SSA it hurts beyoonnd words knowing my country has tried so often to evade the truth of the many damaged minds and hearts of it's "Veterans of War". I've said enough, God Bless you for being here {Viet am 3/69-3/70------A co. 2/3 199th LIB and 701st maint. Bat 1st inf Div) CO's rto with "A co." Thanks again

Comments: Served as rifleman with B, 4/12. I was one of the originals. I survived the trip to Hattisburg, Miss and the 20 some day boat ride from Oakland to Vung Tau. A note for you, Camp Frensell-Jones was not named untill after Feb 67 when one of them (in my batt lion, my company I think) died in action. The swamp where we set up base camp was unnamed when we arrived on 9 Dec 66. We were to the right (as you faced the main road to Saigon. The 17th Cav was between us and Long Binh Main. Info to pass on (please don' be mad) the Brigade was not deactivated, it was inactived. Deactivation means the unit is stricken from Army rolls forever. Not so with the 199th. The Brigade found new life in 1991 when the remaining 3rd Brigade of the 9th Division (which was inactivate )The Redcatcher patch was worn again from 1991 to 1992 at Fort Lewis, Washinton. I dearly wanted to get back to the unit so I could one of the few to wear the patch on both shoulders, didn't make it, damn. I am also retired now (as you could see from my g estbook entry. Congratulations to your husband SFC Crowder (ret) on a job well done. Was he with the 5/12 or what? Anyway someone sent me a blanket email so I guess I'm registered in someones Vietnam database. Regards and good memories of the 199th Ian Knight
