History of the 6th Air Force
Constituted as Panama Canal Air Force on 19 October 1940.
Activated in the Canal Zone on 20 November 1940.
Redesigned Caribbean Air Force in August 1941, and 6th Air Force in February 1942.
Served primarily in defense of the Panama Canal; also engaged in antisubmarine operations.
Redesigned Caribbean Air Command On 31 July 1946.
- Commands:
VI Bomber: 1941-1946. VI Bomber Command was made up of the 6th BG, 9th BG ('41-'42), 24th BG,
and 40th BG.
VI Fighter: 1941-1942.
XXVI Fighter: 1942-1946.
XXXVI Fighter: 1942.
