My father, Lt. Robert J. Pirie, served as a Navigator in the Panama Canal from April of 1943 until Feb. of 1945. I am desperate to find people who knew him and can share information.

Radar & Radio Operator, went from Morrison Field to Rio Hato, for Breakfast and flew our of Salinas in LB-30 AL632 Hellapoppin with Bob Walden. Tdy fo Talara for a couple of months. Max W. Hall our Radar Oficer, stationed at Rio Hato, DAvid and Hoard Fie d Insructor at Boca Raton,. Fl. last yr of WW II.. Line Chief at MacDill AFb, Tampa Fl. for 1st part of Korean War. REcalled reserve at that time.

Great to receive the history. However, nothing was said about our conversion from B-24 to B-17. This occured sometime in 1946. We were required to check-out in the brand new 17s and the pilots who flew them down flew our 24s back to the States. We were not too happy about not getting to fly our planes back. Instead we returned on a rusty bucket, the Liberty ship, S.S. General Blanchard. The superiority of 24s over 17s was confirmed. Bill Jenkins
