On August 20, 1968 I entered M.C.R.D. San Diego,
California. I was in 1st Bn., Co. B., Platoon 1067.
We finished I.T.R. and B.I.T.S. and left on "Boot
Leave" on Christmas Day. I would have enjoyed my
leave except for a bad case of the flu. I got
extended leave for being sick and by the time I got
to staging, everyone I went through boot camp with
was gone. I would like to hear from some of those
guys from Platoon 1067. I only ran across three
while I was in Vietnam and have always wondered
where everyone else went.
I ended up in Da Nang in 3rd Bn., 7th Marines,
1st Mar. Div. My 1st company was Kilo Co. I was
with Kilo from sometime in February 1969 to the end
of May, throughout Operation Oklahoma Hills, which
ended on May 29th.
I took R&R in Hawaii the 2nd week of June and
when I returned I found I had been transferred to
H&S Co. and was sent to scout school.
The only names I can remember from Kilo Co. are:
2nd Lt. Jaehne, Jose "Jo-Jo" Jimenez (Dec'd), John
"J.B." Bosser (Dec'd), "Chief" Ototivo (whom I have
spoken with lately), Norris(?), Bennett(?), Reynolds(?)
and Huffer (who also took rabies shots in April,
when I did).
I was assigned to Mike 3/7 after scout school
which was around July 1969 and stayed with them until
Nov. 1969. The names I remember from Mike 3/7 are:
Capt. Stanat, 1st Lt. Edwards(?), N.I. Throckmorton
(sniper), Kehoe (?)(spotter), Michael Hudson (F.O.),
"Denny", Buddy West, John Roller, Cpl.Smith(who
tripped the booby trap that put us all[Buddy, John,
Me, and some others] in the hospital). There was
also a guy from Tacoma Washington by the name of
Spivey and a radio operator whose name was Shorthill.
I'd like to hear from anyone that was in Kilo or
Mike 3/7 from February to November 1969 that I might
remember. There are things I can't remember and way
too many things that I can't forget.
If you are out there guys, E-mail me.
I need to fill in some blank spots about my tour
and could sure use the help.
