In the Second World War many vessels sought refuge in the calm and safe haven of Plymouth Sound, see my other site - Plymouth Sound and it`s Warships in World War II . Many of these photographs show some of the more unusual vessels of this era that others may have missed. Some of these were defended by a rocket powered mini-equivalent of a Barrage Balloon, the Schermuly Rocket Parachute Barrage( best visible on shots of M.B. Chaffinch, but also visible on many others); for very rare contemporary cutaway technical drawings of this system, click on this link to one of my other sites: Rockets! Rockets! Rockets! and Schermuly and his Rockets

This page is dedicated to the happy memory of Peter

Some of these images may have appeared on my other web sites, however when presented here, I hope they are scanned better. Having said that, the bulk of these are new material.

Finally...what about these?

These photographs were lent to me by my web buddy Graham Hart. They show damage to a ship that resulted in a "bow-end-ectomy"....total bow removal!!!!. Graham believes the background to this was torpedo attack, and the "V" entry point in the hull on this shot points to that. Have a look. 1......2.......3......4......
