THE BROOME COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPT. SPONSORS A LAW ENFORCEMENT EXPLORER PROGRAM, OPEN TO ALL MALE AND FEMALES, AGES FROM 14-21, WHO ARE LOOKING TO PURSUE A CAREER IN LAW ENFORCEMENT.
THE COURSE IS SET UP LIKE A BASIC POLICE ACADEMY WITH TRAINING IN LAWS, EVIDENCE,
FINGERPRINTING,
K-9 DEMONSTRATIONS, ARSON INVESTIGATION, HANDS ON TRAINING IN SELF DEFENSE, HANDCUFFING TECHNIQUES, USE OF FORCE AND DEADLY PHYSICAL FORCE, DOMESTIC VIOLENCE, D.A.R.E., COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT, NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH.
WE ALSO INTRODUCE THEM TO DIFFERENT KINDS OF POLICE WORK, SUCH AS STATE POLICE OFFICER, EN-CON OFFICER, JAIL ADMINISTRATION, AND CORRECTIONS.
WE ALSO HAVE RIDE ALONG PROGRAMS WERE THE CADET WILL RIDE WITH A DEPUTY FOR A SHIFT, TRAINING IN COMMUNICATIONS/DISPATCH PROCEDURES, BOAT PATROL.
COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT WILL BE WORKING PARADES, DARE FUNCTIONS, SPECIAL EVENTS, POLICE WEEK, SHERIFF'S SUMMER CAMP, YOUTH COURT, CHILD FINGERPRINTING, ECT.
THIS PROGRAM IS DESIGNED TO GIVE THE CADET A BASIC OVERVIEW OF WHAT POLICE OFFICERS DO, TO HELP THEM MAKE A DECISION IF THEY WOULD LIKE TO PURSUE A CAREER IN LAW ENFORCEMENT OR NOT.
