This early morning traffic stop ended in the arrest of the male driver for misdemeanor possession of a concealed firearm and possession of a loaded firearm in the vehicle. Members of the Vandenberg Highway Patrol take one into custody (far patrol car, left, rear window)
Pictured to the right is the gun, ammunition and knives seized from the driver in the above picture. 9MM hangun, fully loaded with one in the chamber and extra magazine
As members of the Air Force, Security Policemen rarely, if ever leave the Base to enforce the law. We, however at Vandenberg AFB possess what is known as Concurrent Jurisdiction within a certain area outside of the gates, sharing jurisdiction with the California Highway Patrol and the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Department. A select few of us routinely patrol Highway 1 (Pacific Coast Highway), enforcing all laws of the State of California on civilians as well as those which apply to the military for active duty members.
Who would complain about working this beat? Pictured above - One of our favorite spots to run RADAR (easier to hide at night though) on Highway 1- High speeds here have been 104 MPH and 107 MPH, our record so far. Beautiful scenery, popular thoroughfare for international toursits. See if you can see the patrol car in this picture. Click on the picture to reveal it's location and see what California motorists fear seeing the most.

About me
Here is my partner Lee (left) and I (right) when the Stealth Fighter visited our base. We thought this would be a cool picture. Click here to view it life size.
(Right) Brian and I stopped a car for speeding. Just before conducting a consent search, one of the occupants asked to have "his" jacket from the back of the car "because he was cold." After a consent search of the jacket and finding the below Marijuana pipe and "chronic", not only did he have a WARM jacket, but a Notice to Appear HOT off the press.
(Left) Lee and I stopped a Ford Mustang for a turning violation. After conducting a check of the Automated Firearms System, the driver returned with this handgun registered to him. After being asked about it's location, he calmly replied in his gym bag behind his seat. When I asked him if it was the same bag he just reached into to get his registration, he replied, "yes" and was politely removed from the car and placed into a newer one with a cage and a new pair of bracelets.
