I went to visit Colditz castle this afternoon. Having read the book 16 times it was a very inspiring day for me. The guided tour is a bit restricted though - just 2 or 3 ground floor rooms plus a bit of history. Nice though... Cheers.

I've read Reid's & Eggers' books so often the spines are broken. Your pics have finally given me the geography of the stories. Hope to visit some day. Great work! Thanks from Canada.

Excellent site, wonderful photos. I've read 'Colditz' when I was 12, and re-read it few days ago (aged 20, this time). Thanks to this guestbook I found Owens' e-mail, I'm so excited you've no idea. Gonna write to him as soon as possible. I'll go see Col itz Castle in early August, hope that some POW's gonna be there by then... Marcello

I have read Pat Reid's books ('The Colditz Story' and 'The latter days at Colditz') literally over a dozen times each. He has done honour to the brave people who were living in Colditz during the war and recounts touching stories about these prisoners and their 'friend' the enemy. For long have I wanted to see this castle and en fin...here it is. A visit to the site will be necessary though! I hope that the memory of these brave people who fought against all adversity remains, as these are men who have beaten all odds...either by staying alive or by actually making it home. A special mention must however go to Mike Sinclair, who is perhaps th very essense of all the men in Colditz prison. I am sure that he is in the memory of all those who knew him. He surely is in mine. If ever anybody who was a Colditz prisoner comes across this, do drop me an e-mail. Pat Reid has written the history of the camp during the war years. As surely many others have, I have absorbed these brave deeds and would be more than willing to hear fro those involved in any way. Thanks James Zammit Malta GC

I have recently been watching the video 'Escape from Colditz' and it is great. It is amazing that these people can remember so much, and that some other people say they know them!!! It must be so sad for them remembering all the stuff from the war!! Were all the people on the series PoW?

You may be interested to know that a video recording of the memoirs of my father, Jock Hamilton-Baillie (PoW 1940-45, Colditz 1944-45) is available from the film company Applecart at www.applecart.co.uk All proceeds go to the Red Cross, for shom he has been raising money since his release from Colditz in 1945. The video includes details of his remarkable collection of memorabilia, including the original Union Jack flown from the castle roof when the Americans arrived. An excellent web site!

Just want to congratulate you on a great weg page. I enjoy everything that has to do with WW2 History and Colditz Castle is one of those interesting details of that time period. This page will probably become more popular and quite useful when the Colditz movie comes out next year. Hollywood may change th historical facts and this page will educate those who are interested in what actually happened. I used to play the boardgame when I was a kid and maybe IŽll start again. If you could e-mail me a web page where I can find it I would apreciate it a lot. best regards, JNHL

I first read P. R. Reid's book over 20 years ago and have reread too many times to count. If stranded on a desert island with only one book that one would be it. My hat's off to the brave men of Colditz.
