Cover Notes

This is an unrivalled reference work containing details of all ships whose primary role has been to operate aircraft at sea. It includes ships from the British Royal Navy, the Royal Australian navy/Canadian Armed Forces and the Indian Navy, as well as many ships that originally served with the United States Navy. The 123 ships covered range from Hermes, the first ships in the world to be designed, ordered and built as an aircraft carrier, to today's Invincible, recently in service supporting British forces in former Yugoslavia. Comprehensive technical details of all the ships are given, with extensive service histories. As well as the conventional hull and armament facts, the author provides details of aircraft operating equipment such as catapults, arrester wires and lifts (much of which information has not been published before). He also lists the aircraft fuel capacities and weapon capacities of every ship.

Reviews

James Rated this book  Excellent
This is an excellent reference work for anyone interested in aircraft carriers providing details of the carriers deployments and the various refit and exercises periods during their careers and the fate of those not in service. It also lists the temporary ships brought into service during World War 2 and those which were cancelled or never built such as HMS Leviathan and CVA-01.
