The following is from a Reuters Report. Let's hope..... Missing U.S. Pilot's Initials Said Seen in Iraq Jail Wed Apr 23, 8:19 PM ET
Washington (Reuters) - A U.S. search team has found Navy pilot Scott Speicher's initials scratched into the wall of a Baghdad prison cell, possibly the strongest evidence yet he was alive in Iraqi hands after being shot down on the opening night of the 1991 Gulf War (news - web sites), NBC News said on Wednesday. Speicher was initially listed as killed in action after his F-18 Hornet strike fighter was downed in the opening hours of the war to drive Iraq from Kuwait. But in January 2001 the Navy changed his status to missing in action because of an absence of evidence that he died in the crash, as maintained by the ousted government of President Saddam Hussein . "A U.S. military search team has found Speicher's initials -- MSS -- scratched into the wall of a cell in a Baghdad prison," the network said, citing unidentified U.S. officials. But they were quoted as saying they had no intelligence that would indicate his current location or if he was still alive. Spokesmen for the Pentagon and the warfighting U.S. Central Command said they had no information about any such finding of initials in a Baghdad cell.
