The State Guard Association of the USThe SGAUS is the national association for the organized state militia, often known as State Defense Force, State Guard, or State Military Reserve. These state military forces are the official "well regulated" Militia of their respective states. State Defense Force Institute exists to encourage the development of State Defense Forces across the nation. This website exists to advance that cause more effectively. The National Infantry Association This group actively recruits SDF members. The Association of the United States ArmyAUSA is a private, nonprofit, professional, educational Association of over 100,000 individual, business and organization members dedicated to maintaining a strong national defense with special emphasis on landpower and the essential role of the United States Army. |
Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) FEMA offers online correspondence courses in emergency management. These courses are a must for every State Guardsman. The U.S. Fire Academy They offer an excellent self-study course on terrorism. U.S. Army Institute for Professional Development Here you can view the text for every Army Correspondence Course. You can also enroll in some (If you are qualified). Medical Correspondence Courses Division, Naval School of Health Sciences, Portsmouth, Virginia Here are some excellent naval correspondence courses, same rules as the Army courses. American Military University American Military University is an accredited, licensed institution of higher education specializing in military studies through distance learning. This school is open to anyone, military or civilian. |

Southern Poverty Law Center The Intelligence Project tracks "militias" and Domestic Terrorist Groups by monitoring Internet Web sites and communications, extremist publications, law enforcement reports and news media sources. Anti-Defamation League This is another group that tracks militia and hate group activities. |

32 USC 109 This is the Federal Law that allows states to keep SDF's. 10 USC 659 This is the Federal Law that authorizes the Naval Militia. PRESSER v. STATE OF ILLINOIS, 116 U.S. 252 (1886) This Supreme Court case stated very clearly that the militia is regulated by the state and can only form under the authority of the government. And it stated that "Military organization and military drill and parade under arms are subjects especially under the control of the government of every country. They cannot be claimed as a right independent of law." PERPICH v. DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE, 496 U.S. 334 (1990) This case identified SDF's as part of the State Militia and not just "other troops". |
