In 1862 Benjamin Willis raised a company of able bodied men from Hempstead
and surrounding areas in Queens County (now Nassau) Long Island.
This became Co. H. of the 119th N.Y.Volunteers. The regiment fought in many
of the battles well known to all of us. Some of the action they saw was
at Chancellorsville,Gettysburg and the march to the sea with Sherman,
their last engagement was Bentonville,N.C.. In 1980 The Co.H,119th
N.Y.Historical Association was formed to recreate this company and
research its history and the history of the Civil War on Long Island.
Join us at our monthly meetings on the second Wednesday of each month at 8 P.M. in the visitors center of Old Bethpage Village Restoration on Long Island. August 19 & 20 are the dates of the annual Civil War Encampment at Old Bethpage Restoration Village. This years event will portray Camp Morgan. The public are encouraged to visit the Village and join us at this popular event. Not only will you see members of Co.H but also many other invited units. sign guestbook view guestbook |
