His birth was in another reality, till that reality was destroyed by the war between Humans and Mutants. At the end of that war Nate Grey was flung across the Spiral for the first time, landing upon a new world, a better world. He has since used his great powers to protect his new home, It wasn't until others from devestated realities sought to destroy his new home that he became the Shaman, protector of the gate against any who would dare climb or decend the Spiral.
