Navy Years
Boot Camp
I joined the United States Navy May 24, 1974. I decided to go into the Navy because my father and uncle had been in. I rode the Greyhound bus to Chicago, Ill where I then took a navy bus to Great Lakes.My first duty station
I arrived in
Califorina in Oct 1974 in Long Beach aboard the USS
Oriskany (cva-34) where we stayed till May 1975 when the ship
moved to Alameda until it deployed in September 75 for the
Phillipines.From there we went to Hong Kong then back to Phillipines.
The ship arrived in Alameda Feb 76 when we started
decomissioning her.
My second duty station
In Oct 76 I was tansfered to San Diego Ca. and
arrived aboard the USS Ajax (AR-6). I made one deployment to
Japan then Korea and back to San Diego. In June 78 I
got out of the navy then decided to reenlist.
Third duty station
Next I went to the USS Jason
(AR-8) in San Diego Ca. I made a deployment to the western
pacific and returned to San Diego Ca.
Fourth duty station
I went to shore duty at
ACB-1 over at the amphibous base in Cornado
Ca. I was there for a year and a half.Fifth duty station
In June of 1981 I was stationed on the USS Blue Ridge (LCC-19) in Yokosuka, Japan. I was there until Jan 23, 1983.
Sixth duty station
I returned to San Diego and was on the USS Ajax (AR-6) again. I was there about 9 months.
Seventh duty station
For three years I was on the USS Bradley (FF-1041) in San Diego. I went on one Westpac and spent two months in Ha.
Eighth duty station
I spent two years on shore duty at SIMA San Diego.
Ninth duty station
I spent four years on the USS England (CG-22). I had two Westpacs. On the first one we arrived in the Persian Gulf Aug 1, 1990 the day before Saddam took over Kuwait. We stayed in the gulf until Nov 1, 1990. In 1994 the ship was decommisioned.
Tenth duty station
My last ship and duty station was the USS McKee (AS-41) in San Diego.
Retirement
I retired on Aug 17, 1994.
