PRESIDENTS
JULIAN PALACIOS ( 1900 - 1902 ).
Palacios pioneered the society that some yeas later would become a great Club. He joined the Real Madrid and the Sky and was their President until the Club was officially founded.
JUAN PADRÓS (1902 - 1904 ).
Second President of the Real Madrid, and actual founder of the Club, Padrós gave the team created by Palacios an official character. He stablished the basis for the Club's future development.
CARLOS PADRÓS (1904 - 1907 ).
Juan Padrós' brother, Carlos
Padrós was one of the most important characters in the History
of the Real Madrid. He was a visionary football leader. It was
his idea to organize the Spanish Championship. He stablished the
Club's head office, the member's quotas and the playing fields.
3 Spanish Cups.
ADOLFO MELÉNDEZ ( 1908 - 1916) (1939 - 1941).
This General of the Spanish Army, born in Galicia, was the President of the Club in two different times. During his first presidency he finished Padrós' works. After the Civil War, when the club was not but the memories of the glorious past, he assumed its direction again and built the fields of Narváez and O'Donnell.
PEDRO PARAGES (1917 - 1926).
He was the Club's first member. As a President, he led the Club to professionalism.
LUIS DE URQUIJO (1926 - 1929).
Thanks to his generosity and hard work the Chamartín field was built: he contributed to the works with a million and a half pesetas in the year 1932.
LUIS USERA (1929 - 1933).
He surrounded himself of a team
of collaborators whom he let work with great freedom. During his
stage as President Zamora, Quinoces, Regueiro and so on arrived
at the Club and the number of members substantially increased.
2 Leagues.
ANTONIO SANTOS (1933 - 1934).
His Presidendy was the short
and easy. There were great players in the team when he arrived,
thanks to whom many trophees were won. The number of members
increased.
1League and 1 Cup.
RAFAEL SÁNCHEZ ( 1935 - 1939).
Lawyer, journalist, deputy...
His multiple occupations didn't prevent him from leading the
Club. His important influences in the political scene were used
on the benefit of the Real Madrid.
1 Cup.
SANTIAGO BERNABÉU (1943 - 1978).
He will make football History
and will be remembered as the perfect President. His professional
career is very important and often praised even by those who do
not support Real Madrid. First, he was a player, then a member of
the board of directors, and eventually became President, position
that he kept until the year of his decease (1978). During his
presidency, the most important events in the History of the Club
took place: in 1974, he built the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, the
sports facilities of the Ciudad Deportiva and the ones of the
basketball team. He actively took part in the U.E.F.A.
Commissions and participated in the creation of the European Cup.
A great number of coaches and players were part of the Club
during these years, the best years of the Club ever in what
refers to its sports achievements.
16 Leagues, 6 Cups, 2 Latin Cups, 6 European Cups, 1 Intercontinental Cup and several Leagues, Cups and European Cups in basketball.
LUIS DE CARLOS (1978 - 1985).
He suffered the worst years in
the History of the Club, after Bernabéu's decease. He was able
to overcome the empty space left by Bernabéu and confronted his
presidency with seriousness and strong determination. Known as a
hard-working, honest gentleman, he always intended to go on with
Bernabéu's labour.
2 Leagues, 2Cups, 1 U.E.F.A. Cup and 1 Cup of the League.
RAMÓN MENDOZA (1985 - 1995).
It is a hard task to judge such
a controversial President as Mendoza. It is obvious, however,
that the sports achievements during his stage as president were
very important, despite the lack of a Champions' League. During
the first years of his presidency, the financial resouces of the
team increased, but later on much money was spent on renewing the
Stadium, and Mendoza eventually left important debts behind.
Thanks to the players he bought and the investments he made, the
Club kept his position both in the national and international
scene.
6 Leagues, 2 Cups, 3 Supercups, 1 U.E.F.A. Cup and 1 Cup of the League. Basketball: Leagues, Cups, 1 European Cup, 2 Recopas and 2 Korac Cups.
LORENZO SANZ (1995 ....).
He becomes
President with the support of the board of directors after the
economic desaster that took place during Mendoza's presidency.
Sanz is businessman that knows how to lead the club. He tries to
improve the economic situation of the Club. He is building a
great team that will give the Club new titles and glorious times.
