Joel Francis Appling, Jr. enlisted as a Private in Co. K, 10th Mississippi Cavalry in late 1864. He was born November 2, 1846 in Desoto County, Miss. He was captured [location unknown] and imprisoned at Camp Chase. A copy of his release papers from Camp Chase describe him as 18 years old, dark complexion, dark hair, 5'5" in height. His release was signed by Brv't Brig. Gen. Richardson, commanding post.
Joel Francis Appling, Jr. died in Memphis, Shelby Co., TN, on June 22, 1913 and is buried in Forrest Hill Cemetery [Midtown] with his wife Lavonia Appling. Source: Gr. grandson William Barry Appling
William S. Massey was a member of Co. K, 4th Mississippi Infantry. William was captured at Nashville by Minnesota 5th Inf. He had already been caught at Vicksburgh but was paroled. Source: Gr. gr. grandson Steve Massey
Christopher Columbus Neal was a member of Co. H, 36th Alabama Infantry. He was captured at Altoona, Ga. on October 5, 1864 and imprisoned at Camp Chase until wars end. Source: Gr. grandson Artis Hilton Neal
