LIST OF 777TH SQUADRON CREWS


J. D. Waldrop's personal note: Our squadron had the worse luck of any in the Air Force. It looked as though none of us would survive after we lost 4 crews on July 27. But by the grace of God some of us did live through those awful air battles.


  1. LT. ROY SAGER: CRASHED IN POCATELLO. 8 men killed - 2 lived - January 4, 1944
  2. LT. R C. WHITE: CRASH IN OUDNIA. all 10 men were killed - April 12, 1944
  3. LT. G HAMPEL HURT IN GIOIA. LT. PINKNEY (copilot) and he left for states August 1, 1944 (0 miss.) - May 15, 1944
  4. LT. L RAPHEAL: Missing. All P.O.W.'s - May 29, 1944
  5. LT. RED EAVES: Missing. Red came back July 27, 1944, Haverkos a P.O.W. 8 men killed - on May 28, 1944
  6. LT. BUDDY ELROD: Missing. Navigator and Bombardier got back. Bombardier went down with me. Navigator went home later. All others P.O.W.'s. - May 28, 1944
  7. LT. TROTTER: Blew up. Capt. MacCarty along. - May 25, 1944.
  8. LT. JOHN LUQUE: Got home a Captain.

    60% of all old crews gone by "D" Day.

  9. LT. LAMARR DUNN: Missing. Colonel Bonner with him. Dunn a P.O.W. All but Dunn were killed. - June 27, 1944
  10. MAJOR CARTOR, LT. LOCKE, PERSELLI, & LADIG: All P.O.W.'s - June 27, 1944
  11. LT JOHN TUDBURY: Missing. Got back three days later. Went home later. 2 men killed. - July 8, 1944
  12. CAPT. TUDOR: Missing. 5 killed, 5 POW's. - August 7, 1944
  13. LT. CASEY: Got home.
  14. LT. LEET: We got ours ALL BACK SAFE. Navigator hot his August 7, 1944 again and Radio operator got his in December. All other's home safe. (Additional note: Sgt. Reimey was killed. He died after the chute jump) J. D. Waldrop's crew members - June 16, 1944
  15. CAPT. LATIMER: Missing. Bombardier P.O.W. others ? (Additional note: We learned 9 men were killed only the Bombardier lived) - May 10, 1944
  16. LT. MILLER. Missing. All P.O.W.'s except Miller. He was killed. - July 16, 1944
  17. LT FENNIMORE: Got Home.
  18. LT. SHAD: Got Home.
  19. LT. SHACK PARRISH: Missing (Blew up). All 10 men killed. - May 27, 1944
  20. LT. CLYDE JUDY: Missing. Got back July 20, 1944. Got Home. (Additional note: 6 were drowned after their chuted over the Avidac Sea.) - July 16, 1944

    75% of old crews gone by July 16, 1944.
