The U.S. Air Force Auxiliary began as the Civil Air Patrol in December of 1941 in the Office
of Civil Defense and later was transferred to the Army Air Forces during WWII. After the war it
became part of the newly formed U.S. Air Force as its official Auxiliary.
The 184th, Shelbyville Composite Squadron, is an unit in the
U.S. Air Force Auxiliary. The 184th is based in Shelbyville, Indiana and has been serving
its community, state, and nation since 1972. The 184th fields an accomplished Ground Team
for search and rescue, and disaster relief missions in the Indiana area.
