The 184th Report would like to begin with adding a section to assist in grassroots communication of ideas and concerns. We don’t want controversial, sensitive, or inappropriate subject matter nor do we want to replace the chain of command. What we are hoping for is to bring up ideas, concerns, questions that we can share at the squadron level to other members to help increase awareness of and hopefully generate support for the idea or concern. Not to be confused with CAP TALK or a Commander’s Call but where we can introduce those questions or ideas that we all would like to ask or address but really don’t know where to go or how to get started. Check out the first issue later in this issue: “Access to AAFES website”.
Shelbyville Composite Squadron will be hosting a marathon training session for National Safety Council First Aid and American Heart Association BLS (formerly known as CPR). The training will take place at the Shelbyville National Guard Armory on Saturday, April 14, beginning at 0830 and concluding no later than 1700. The cost is $5 which includes training and a cold lunch. If you wish to purchase the training book it is an additional $11. Please contact 1Lt. Kris Copes at: krcopes@fbc-wired.com for more information.
Captain Reynolds will be giving a public affairs seminar at the National Boards on Saturday, August 18th. The seminar has been approved and will be one of the sessions for people interested in the Public Affairs Directorate. The seminar is tentatively titled “Squadron Websites as a Vehicle for Internal and External Public Affairs”. To keep track of this seminar and the National Boards in general visit: http://www.capnhq.gov/conference/pages/nb/nationalboard.html
Be sure to read the new Indiana Wing newsletter available on the web at: http://www.inwg.cap.gov/Eoutlook/index.html The E-Indiana Outlook is put together by Major Carl Jylland-Halverson, Indiana Wing Public Affairs Officer. Look for the new issue in the coming weeks
Wing Conference and Banquet went very well. The conference featured sessions on Operations, Recruiting, Logistics, Public Affairs, Aerospace, Safety, IG, Supply, and Cadet Programs.
We wanted to let everyone know that a “Summary of Wing/Region Support” document should be circulating with different support areas to volunteer for the National Boards. Areas include transportation, airport duties, communications, and public affairs. Our wing coordinator is Captain Karen Weinkle. If you have questions or would like more information you can contact her at: weinkle@venus.net

*Access to AAFES Website*
Every member of Civil Air Patrol has AAFES Exchange privileges. We can go to virtually any Air Force Base Exchange to locate uniform supplies. Some supplies that we don’t have in the CAP Bookstore such as: the service dress jacket and pants, and cap. Other items such as: books from the CSAF Reading List, and various styles (short sleeve, long sleeve w/ “French cuffs”) and materials (lighter and heavier materials) of the Blue (Class B) shirt are available thru AAFES. However, the most convenient way for us to access AAFES – their website – is not accessible by CAP members. Why? We’re not sure. Unfortunately the AAFES website doesn’t have much content to explain why we don’t have access and who to contact to express interest. Here’s what they do state on the matter:
If you have full Exchange Service shopping privileges, you are authorized to order from this website. (Exceptions are ROTC, Foreign Officers, Civil Air Patrol and Coast Guard Auxiliary personnel.)
We’ve had discussions about the AAFES website at our unit and how useful it would be to access supplies and uniform items. Recently, the topic was brought up at our wing conference and it was asked if this issue could be sent up the chain of command. At our unit we are not sure if this is something that needs to be asked at CAP National, Air Force, or AAFES. Regardless it sure would be a great benefit to our members!
