The 184th Report
A press release was sent out several weeks ago about the changes, and improvements done to our squadron website. Apparently this was attention enough to allow us to be featured in the April issue of the CAP News. Our squadron website was listed in the CyberWall on page 12 of that issue. The CyberWall is a collection of websites that the editors of the CAP News feel is of interest to other members. We are all very pleased about being featured in the CAP News and have had several positive remarks since this feature was published.
Summer has arrived and besides graduations, and summer vacations there are a multitude of CAP activities coming up- especially in Indiana Wing. For starters right off the bat we’ll be having the Indiana Wing Air Force Evaluated SAR on June 3rd and 4th. So we hope to see all ground team members there so we can show the Air Force what the meaning of the word “really good” is!
Next up we have the Indiana Wing Conference, which will be something you won’t want to miss. The Conference will be held at the L.A. Pittenger Student Center on the Ball State Campus in Muncie. There will be breakout sessions for various directorates including Safety, Public Affairs. Following the Conference will be the Annual Awards Banquet that evening.
For the cadets the Summer Encampment takes place on June 16-25 with Kentucky Wing at Camp Atterbury. On the 24th and 25th of June all Senior members who haven’t had their SLS or CLC courses will want to be in Indianapolis to attend these two day courses. To attend send a Form 17 to Major Wickman ASAP!
The May SAREX held at Morgan-Monroe was rain free for the duration. We arrived Saturday morning just missing the early morning showers. The SAREX had us running thru a total of seven different tasks under the new ES Curriculum. As the temperature and humidity rose in the early afternoon we participated in a land navigation course and this was followed by an ELT search. The next SAREX will be held June 3rd at Greenwood Airport.
On May 18th our Cadet Commander, C/2LT. Waggoner brought in several gliders with 4-foot wingspans to be used by the cadets for our monthly aerospace class. The cadets learned about the different control surfaces of an airplane, and flight fundamentals of an airplane. Then with their gliders, the cadets proceeded to the drill floor to practice the flying ability of their gliders. The gliders were set up with weights (coins) to assist them in traveling the greatest distance possible. There was a competition for distance and was won by Cadet Waggoner. Other attempts were made to see how many loops the cadets could get their gliders to perform, and a precision test to see who could get their gliders to land inside a designated area. All in all it was a very good class!
We have made some additional changes to the website. We’ve added information about the Senior Program on the ‘Recruiting’ page. There are some new files on the ‘184th Report’ page and look form some information about Emergency Services on our ES page. Check it out!
