Dear Friends,
We laughed and played 'cause we were young and free. We sang our songs and danced our dances.
Then, we were called to fight for "freedom"! and they sent us far away. We were sent to such places as Korea;
We were so young and so free. We laughed and them we cried cause we knew some of us must die.
They said, "It was all for freedom".
We were oh so young and so bold, we did as we were told.
It would be wonderful, "if we could meet again".
Later, we were sent to Vietnam and then the Persian Gulf. Once again, we laughed and cried - and once again - more died.
Cause the "price" of freedom is so very high.
Now, I am old and alone - I don't have much laughter; and my dances, they are few.
It would be nice, "If we could meet again." and share our laughter and old times, our hearts would be young and free.
They say our government has built monuments to you, in our capital. They say it is of the purest black marble, so shiny and bright, they say all of your names are on it.
I really don't know - cause your names were imbedded in my heart the day you left me alone - and I do walk alone.
Oh, "If we could meet again", I would be free once again.
I could sing, and dance again, my life would have meaning.
Rest well my friends, for we will meet again one day; and we will sing and dance and laugh forever.
