STRUCTURE OF THE JROTC PROGRAM
The organized group of JROTC cadets constitutes a unit. It is structured very much like a traditional Army battalion, with cadets filling the positions of every rank. Rank is earned, not automatic, which supports the goal of helping students develop self esteem.
"Leadership Education and Training", or LET, is the term used for the different levels of the program.
LET 4 cadets are normally seniors and fill key positions (for example, Battalion Commander, Battalion Executive Officer, Primary staff officers and company commanders)
LET 3 cadets are normally juniors and serve as assistants to principal staff officers.
LET 2 cadets are normally sophomores and fill mid-level NCO positions
LET 1's make up the junior cadets of the unit.
EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
Color Guard. This is one of the most popular extracurricualr activities.
Physical Fitness Team. A great opportunity to get oneself in good physical condition and compete against other schools.
Rifle Team. Three position shooting. Consists of four to five cadets that compete against other JROTC programs. Utilizing pellet rifles and equipment provided by both the U.S. Army and Wichita Falls Independent School District. Rifle safety is taught and continuously stressed.
Orienteering. A strenuous outdoor activity involving map reading skills and a compass
Summer Camp. Each summer, our school sends several cadets to a special encampment at Fort SIll, OK. The cadets recieve intensive training in leadership, discipline, teamwork, responsibility...and fun. THe cadets take on challenging confidence courses, practice water safety and land navigation. Cadets usually want to return the following year.
