Hailing originally from St. Joseph, Missouri, Charles Cole joined the 20th.FG on 29 Sept., 1944. He became the Assistant Squadron Operations Officer of the 77th.FS and flew a total of 27 1/4 hours in combat, most in P-51D Serial #44-72160, Squadron Code KI-K. Cole was shot down 10 February, 1944 and became a POW. He was later liberated and returned to the Zone of Interior.
