    DITTO

As a Veteran, I have always been proud of what that title
meant. If it were not for the Veterans, this country would
not be here, as we know it.

I would not stand for anyone to belittle or degrade the
Veteran. The Vet has paid so dearly to wear that title. I
talk of all Veterans, either peacetime or war. We all had a
job to do and we did it.

This brings me to a subject of holidays. In May, we
celebrate Memorial Day. It is the time that our nation has
set aside to honor and remember the Veterans that have gone
on before the rest of us. The name of the holiday says it
all. It is a memorial to those men and women.

The holiday usually consists of going to the cemeteries of
our nation and placing flags on the graves of our departed
Veterans. In Arlington Virginia a ceremony is observed by
placing a wreath on the tombs of the Unknown Soldiers. I
feel that it is a worthwhile tribute to our departed
comrades. It is truly a time to remember.

In November, we have a holiday called Veterans Day. It is
to honor the Veteran. A few years back the holiday was
called Armistice Day, but that was changed by congress to
    honor the Veterans.

One thing that I have seemed to notice about this holiday
is, we go out to the cemeteries of our nation and place
flags on the graves of our departed comrades. In Arlington
Virginia they go out and place a wreath on the tombs of the
    Unknown Soldiers.

This brings me to the point of the title of this writing,
"Ditto". We seem to have gotten to the point where we have
two Memorial Days. I feel that the plain old veteran, the
one that has served his country, got out and fit their selves
back into civilian lives has been more or less forgotten.
Little, if any is said about the guy or gal that is still
walking and talking. Memorial Day should be observed for
what it stands for. On the other hand, Veterans Day should
remember the unknown thousands of us that are still wearing
    the title, VETERAN.
