i came across this while web searching military brat databases and i found it to be very heartfelt. my dad is a retired Air Force TSGT, he spent 20 years in the military. i was only 17 when he retired and we moved to a town that had no military base. i must admit that it was like being a fish out of water. why? well, one,i moved during the summer of my senior year and i was looking forward to graduating with my pals but it was not to be. two, the town i moved to had no brats of any kind. i briefly met a girl who was an army brat but she later moved away. i felt so alone and i wanted so badly to return to my roots. it has been seven years since we moved here and there are some days that i wonder if ill ever step onto a military base again. will i come across any brats? but like the poem says i take it one day at a time cause that is what being a brat is all about....thank you for the poem and God Bless Us All!!!

Yes, we who were raised in the military-life have an advantage, especially ifwe live overseas. We are more aware of things around us and we more appreciate our blessings for we have seen the less-fortunate. We are also more accepting of the differences in
people and races. We also have a fonder appreciation of education. When I returned to Stateside and began 6th grade, it took me a while to get used to the US-life, coins, and television. I never have got over the need to travel and move frequently. Ten ye
rs ago, when I was deciding where to live, I came to the conclusion that it was anyhere I wanted to. My decision was not based upon where the "best" place was. I knew that there were "best" places all over the world and that it would take a long time to f
nd the "one". I chose to be in the same state as my parents. I knew that as they aged, they would need me close. They gave me the best childhood and I can never repay them enough.
But, were the shots-in-the-arm during recess really necessary!

Wonderful, I always was told I was special and that I represented the USA where ever I was. I
was always proud to be an Air Force Brat but at the time I was living it I hated it too. God Bless our Military and their families where ever
they may be. Thanks for the memories good work.
