Drift came to stay in January 2005. After losing Jim and Caoimhe so closely together I decided that I would get a younger, healthier dog to carry me through the approaching (though hopefully not too near)losses of Bonnie, Shep and Bram. Drift had been at sheleter in Athens, Georgia. He reminded me so much of Shep that I decided to take him on.
I forgot what having a younger dog is like. Within a week Drift had destroyed a crate, chewed my sofa, anhililated my telephone directories and shredded I don't know how many towels! It turns out that Bram and Drift in combination get up to all sorts of mischief that alone, neither does. So, all change in the household. Drift is now crated in the kitchen and Bram is kept away from him by a baby gate at the door. Touch wood, not problems yet, although I don't think there has been a day when Drift hasn't tipped his waterbowl over!
Four weeks ago we started training sessions. Drift is obviously very intelligent but you'd not know it in class given his performance so far. He has the attention span of a gnat! The slightest distraction and the session may as well be over, and by 30 minutes he has totally tuned out, ignoring everything, preferring to be in his own little world!! Watch this space for our progress - or lack thereof :-)
Each year millions of unwanted pets are destroyed. Please help reduce this number by spaying / neutering - all my dogs are .
